Dementia Friends Champions: Ask your DFO

Ask your RSOEach month, one of our DFOs (Dementia Friends Officers) answer your Dementia Friends Champions questions. Ian Hind, DFO for the East Midlands, answers this month’s question:

How do I log my Information Sessions and record the number of Dementia Friends I’ve made on the website?

It’s such a great achievement that we have passed 1.4 Million Dementia Friends over the festive season. It’s fantastic that we have been able to celebrate such great work by everyone. So this is a really good time to remind ourselves how we log Information Sessions on the Dementia Friends website. You might have delivered a really inspiring Session, but if it has not been recorded on the website then all your hard work won’t be counted!

There two stages to it. Before you deliver you need to create your session. Log onto the site and you should be presented with the Champions Dashboard. There is an option to ‘Create a Session’. Follow the prompts to complete details about your session – including name, date, time, and address. Don’t forget here you can set the number of available spaces and also whether this is a public or private session.

After you’ve delivered your great Information Session please remember to return to the website for stage 2! On your Champions Dashboard you’ll see an option to ‘Tell us about your session’ click through to here and you will see the screenshot below.

If you have more than one session created you will need to select it from the drop down at the top of the screen, otherwise your session name should appear there. Then all you need to do is enter ‘Number of Friends created’. There is a Comments box for your use as well – any reflections or notes about the session that you might want to record. Then all you need to do is select ‘Save Changes’. And then that’s it. You’ve recorded your Information Session and your new Dementia Friends will soon be updated into the new total!

As ever, if you want any support on this or anything else please contact your DFO.

I would like to get a dementia champion in to Roland Rutter Court where I live to talk to the tenants and encourage them to become Dementia Friends. I am also interested in becoming one myself how do I go about it?

Hi Linda – many thanks for your message.

We would be happy to help arrange for a Champion to come in and deliver and Information Session for your tenants. Please email your details to and we can assist you with this.

And great to hear you are interested in becoming a Champion yourself. You just need to create a Champions account on our website and book on to your nearest Champions induction day:

      Best wishes.
