Have your say on the Board of Trustees

With your help, this month Alzheimer’s Society will be electing two new Trustees and, if you’re a Dementia Friends Champion, you’ll have the chance to vote for who you believe will be an effective Trustee and who will be an ambassador for all our volunteers and Champions. Read on to learn more about the role and how to cast your vote. Voting opens 13 July 2016 and closes 31 August 2016.

What is a Trustee?

Trustees have overall control of a charity – including making sure it is doing what it was set up to do; setting the strategic direction for future work; and stewardship of Alzheimer’s Society’s funds.  We currently have 15 Trustees, from various backgrounds of expert skills including strategic management, financial services and professionals from the dementia field.

This year we have two reserved vacancies for active Society volunteers. These new Trustee candidates come from the Society’s active volunteer base, and will help ensure that the experience of volunteers is considered at the board level.

Who are the candidates?

We invited Alzheimer’s Society volunteers to nominate themselves to stand for a Trustee role.  We were looking for volunteers who had been with the Society for at least a year, and who regularly volunteered, so we could be sure they had a good understanding of the charity. The candidates have been through a thorough recruitment and assessment process.

You’ll be able to read more about the individual candidates on the voting page, where they’ve written a short personal statement about themselves. We hope that this will help you make an informed choice of who you vote for to join the board of trustees.

Why should I vote?  How does this affect Champions?

As Trustees set the strategic direction of the charity, that means they also look after the direction of Dementia Friends. This democratic election process is reflective of our commitment to transparency and ensuring that volunteers are involved at the heart of our decision-making. This is one way you have a say in the Society’s future.

Who can vote?

You’ll be eligible to vote if you are an active Dementia Friends Champion, who has attended your Champion induction and has run and reported back on at least one Information Session in the past year and by 30 June 2016.

How do I vote?
