An Alzheimer’s Society dementia support worker has decided to take on the world, in raising awareness about dementia! One of our experienced Dementia Friends Champion Clem Morley delivered a Dementia Friends session for staff at the British Embassy in Paris (whilst on holiday!) on June 26th. Curious as ever we wanted to know how it all went for her, so down below is a brief from the lady herself, on her time in Paris.
“When I first became a Dementia Friends Champion, the idea of leading a Session was quite a daunting concept. I decided to trial it on forgiving family and friends at home in London. We managed to cram 16 people into our living room. All huddled on the sofas and floor eagerly awaiting becoming Dementia Friends. The Information Session went really well and the response was very encouraging. Lots of people mentioned how beneficial they felt the Session would be for friends, family, colleagues, with lots of enthusiastic and proactive actions being discussed.”
A Day In Paris With Dementia Friends
“One of my friends Rob Stone is the Digital Media Manager at the British Embassy in Paris. He mentioned how he would love to arrange a session for me to run at his work. So months later with 12 Dementia Friends Sessions under my belt, and a lot more confidence, I found myself in the stunning gardens of the British Embassy in Paris. It was a sweltering hot day, but 18 staff members gave up their lunch break to become a Dementia Friend. The response was wonderful, it was such an engaging and interesting Session with lots of great input and amazing questions.”
“I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to the British Embassy in Paris and hope that everyone who came to the Session enjoyed it and got as much out of it as I did. It is amazing that people all around the world are so enthusiastic about learning more about dementia in order to support people to live well. I feel it really shows how inspiring and enabling the Dementia Friends Sessions are, as dementia friends turn their understanding into such fantastic actions. First stop Paris next stop…the WORLD!”
Way to go Clem! Glad it all went to plan and we wish you all the best for your future Sessions.
